FAQ'S
HOW MUCH DOES POLO COST?

The University of Kent Polo Club is committed to providing affordable and accessible polo to those of all abilities and aims to dispel the image that has arisen around polo of it being elitist or unaffordable  as anyone involved with the sport will tell you that this image is completely wrong. On top of this university polo is much cheaper than if you were to play out side of university, so if you fancy giving it a go, there is no time better than now!
Our membership is £65 for the whole year, covering our socials and all transport to and from lessons.
Our lessons are £35 for an hour and you can have as little or as many lessons as you’d like, so if you want two a week or two a term that’s fine, it’s completely up to you and what you can afford!

On top of this we will also be offering short sticks lessons; where we use smaller mallets to practise our shots, no horse necessary, rules sessions and we now have a wooden horse on campus so we can practise our shots, from the height of a horse, without the travel and cost of a real lesson. This will be helpful to anyone who wishes to play as it's great practise and will be especially helpful for people who aren't able to have frequent lessons, due to lack of time to travel there or money.

DO I NEED TO HAVE PREVIOUS POLO OR RIDING EXPERIENCE?

No, our members have a range of different abilities, from those who were already impressive polo players and others who had never even sat on a horse (Including our president!). We cater for everyone, and university polo tournaments cater for all levels. Check out our testimonials from members of all abilities!

CAN I JOIN AS A SOCIAL MEMBER?

Yes! If you like the look of the social life that comes with polo but don’t fancy giving it a go yourself or would like to get involved with sport as a spectator instead of playing yourself due to lack of time or funds then we offer social memberships for £25 for the whole year! Our social members are an integral part of the club and just as involved as the players, with one of our committee members, Monica Crolla, being a social member.

WHAT IS THE POLO SOCIAL LIFE LIKE?

One aspect of Kent Polo that all of our members enjoy is the social side. Due to the nature of University Polo, being a mixed gender sport with a lot of interaction between other universities you will meet a wide range of people, in and out of Kent. Throughout the year we go to balls and events hosted by other university clubs and have friendlies as well as competitions (including summer and winter nationals) against other universities, meaning you will meet a lot of different people.
As well as this we have socials every week, which can be nights out, meals or activities which are the highlight of everyone's week and we also have our annual winter ball.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

To join all you need is a pair of boots with a heel (wellies will do!) and comfy clothes.

WHERE DO YOU TRAIN AND HOW DO I GET THERE?

We currently train at MHF polo club in the winter and Silver Leys in the summer. This is about an hour away from campus and our members drive there, with the transport costs covered by your membership. This is a great opportunity to get to know your teammates better! As well as this we will be offering short stick and rules lessons on campus, so you can improve without the travel!

WHO SHOULD I CONTACT IF I HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS?

If you have any further questions feel free to message any member of our committee, like/message our Facebook page or join our Facebook group!
